Spicy Kafta Patties with Cucumber Dill Yogurt
These spicy kafta patties are versatile and perfect for a stovetop or charcoal grill, served with creamy cucumber dill yogurt and fresh herbs.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb ground lamb (or just beef)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tsp ground allspice
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp sweet paprika
- 1 tbsp Aleppo pepper or chili flakes
- 1/4 tsp cayenne
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/2 large yellow onion, finely processed
- 1 cup finely chopped parsley
- A small handful of fresh mint (optional)
- 3 to 4 minced garlic cloves
- 1 cup Greek yogurt
- 2 finely diced mini cucumbers
- 2 tablespoons chopped dill
- 1 minced garlic clove
- Juice of half a lemon
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Mix the ground beef and ground lamb with salt, pepper, ground allspice, cinnamon, sweet paprika, Aleppo pepper or chili flakes, cayenne, and cumin.
- In a food processor, finely process the yellow onion and add it to the meat mixture.
- Add parsley, mint, and garlic cloves to the meat mixture. Mix well until evenly combined.
- Let the mixture sit in the fridge for 2 to 6 hours if possible, or cook immediately.
- Shape the mixture into logs or patties, about 3 to 4 inches long.
- Grill or pan-fry the patties. If using a pan, cook in a hot skillet over medium-high heat for about 3 minutes per side.
- Mix the Greek yogurt with finely diced cucumbers, chopped dill, minced garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, and season with salt and pepper.
- Warm low-carb pita, spread a generous amount of the yogurt spread, add the kafta patties, and top with thinly sliced cucumber, red onion, tomato, mint, and a sprinkle of sumac.
